Huxley's Neue Welt Backstage
In 2017 Huxley's Neue Welt Concert Venue in Berlin needed a makeover of their extensive backstage area. It consists of several rooms and hallways, some of which are quite small / boxy and windowless. The original colours were too flashy, doors and frames were in a toxic pea green, one room was painted dark bordeaux, one room was signal orange - all of which were not really a colour scheme to ease stage-fright before the show or to relax afterwards. Luc changed that to a light colour - an electric blue with hints of petrol - to give a sense of space and air to the smallish rooms. We also changed the lighting and furniture.
One important aspect was to make everything as vandalism and theft proof because, bands...
Pete Johannsen built sturdy stationary tables and all mirrors and artwork was tightly screwed to the wall and can most likely withstand beer bottle attacks etc. For wall decoration Luc hung a series of his of six 50x50cm black and white silver gelatine prints of desert scenes and experimental women body portraits.
The floors became anthrazit and the vinyl seats & sofas where replaced with nicer leather and textile options. The radiators got sprayed violet with glitter.
